The Department of Physiology

The Department of Physiology, Rammohan College came into existence from the beginning of the College in 1961 as pass course undergraduate programme. In 1980, Physiology Honours was introduced. In that year the department had three students only which is around forty in the recent years. The strength of the department is excellence in teaching. The alumni of the Department occupy high positions in academia. The students friendly non teaching staff members are another asset of our department.

After 25 years of successful teaching of Physiology (Hons.) at the undergraduate level from 1980, the University of Calcutta has extended affiliation to Rammohan College for teaching “M.Sc in Human Physiology" course in the year 2006. From then, this course is successfully continuing during day-time and on a Co-educational basis. The number of seats in each semester is 25.

Several students from this section are now engaged in teaching and/or research, both in national and international institutes.

  • University of Calcutta recommended three years B.Sc.Honours Course
  • University of Calcutta recommended three years B.Sc. General Course
  • M.Sc. in Human Physiology affiliated to University of Calcutta (Semester system)

Research Wing

For greater academic interest and advancement of learning, from 2010, one Research wing has been developed in the department and in the meantime, six candidates have been awarded the degree of Ph.D. by the University of Calcutta under the supervision of teaching faculty of this department. Presently, eight research scholars are actively engaged in research work and continuing their  Ph.D. programme in various related fields of Physiology like Pharmacology, Microbiology, Ergonomics, Social physiology, and Sports physiology.  In this connection, research collaboration was undertaken with the following Institutes:-

  1. Bose Institute, Kolkata.
  2. Sports Authority of India (SAI), Eastern region, Kolkata, Govt. of India.
  3. Raja N L Khan College (Autonomous), Midnapore.
  4. Dept. of Physiology, University of Calcutta.
