Rammohan College

The Department of History dates back to the beginning of Rammohan College in 1961. Being one of the compulsory subjects in the undergraduate B.A. course, History is one of the oldest, integral departments of the college, which is proud of its rich legacy of Professors. The current teaching staff of History is highly accomplished and sincere, committed to serving the interest of the students as far as possible. Currently the department offers Honours (Core) and Generic Elective courses under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), introduced by the University of Calcutta in 2018. The department consists of 5 teachers and the teacher student ratio is favourable. Teachers maintain cordial relation with the students and try their best to encourage them in their endeavours. Apart from the lectureship mode of teaching, efforts are made to arrange departmental seminars, Museum visits and educational tours within the city. Parents are informed of the educational progress of their wards by the teachers through regular “parent teacher meetings”. During the pandemic period, classes were regularly held over the online mode. The well stocked general and seminar libraries offer books of various kinds to help the students grow intellectually. Classes are held regularly and students are given extra classes so as to facilitate their learning.
