The Department of Botany, an area of Rammohan College has been functioning under the guidance of renowned faculty members since1964. Honours and General undergraduate courses are offered to students under the University of Calcutta.
A blended mode of methodology is adopted for academic discourse, which include traditional chalk and talk method to smart classrooms. Students are provided with academic materials both online and in classes. Additional support is given to weak students for their upliftment.
Regular attendance is mandatory for students. Faculty members interact with parents and students on regular basis for holistic development of all stake holders. Excursions, seminars and regular evaluation of students are part of the curriculum. All are encouraged to actively participate in sports, cultural programmes, seminars and organized social activities such as National Social Service (N.S.S) and National Cadet Corps (N.C.C).
The department has well equipped laboratories with updated instruments, microscopes and other amenities for conducting syllabus-orientedpractical. The college is a regular university practical centre for both Honours and General curriculum.
Presently the department has six full time faculty members. The faculty participate in academic upgradation programmes regularly.

Excursions are held every year as part of the University curriculum. Objectives of botanical excursions may be highlighted as follows:
Complete Field Notes in the form of a bound copy with relevant photographs to be deposited during final practical examination.

In terms of floristic composition, both the district are allied. Each of the students collected about 29 different flowering plant species for documentation and total 65 plant species were studied. |

Indian Botanic Garden | Botanic Garden is a scientifically planned collection of trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers etc which serves as a living repository of plants. The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden was established in 1787 by Colonel Robert Kyd. The new name of the Garden was adopted wef 26-06-2009. There are more than 12000 trees, shrubs and climbers in the Garden and they belong to 1400 species. | |
